摘要
The Weyl theory of gravity presented by Mannheim & Kazanas is investigated with regard to existing experiments and observations. The point mass solution is used to derive expressions for departures from Newtonian gravity that can be compared with the threshold of detectability on various sub-Galactic scales, including both solar system and laboratory tests. If the free parameter-gamma is a constant, marginal compatibility with constraints on DELTA(GM)/(GM) can be achieved by adjusting-gamma. At a mass scale of kilograms and a distance scale of centimeters, published laboratory results appear to exclude a universal-gamma equal to the reciprocal of the Hubble radius at the current epoch. Possible recourses are described, as well as potential problems on extra-galactic scales.
