THE STUDIES ON THE PHOENICIAN COLONIZATION IN SPAIN IN THE 18TH CENTURY

The 18 th. century meant a series of changes of essential relevance in the Spanish cultural environment. The purpose of this article is to examine the importance of the Illustration for the development of the studies about the Phoenician colonization. We deal with the archaeological discoveries from that century, and also with the different achievements in subjects such as the alphabet, epigraphy, numismatic or the review of the classical literary sources. We relate those studies with the works carried out in other parts of Europe.
