The Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) provides two major benefits to the personal communications: much higher communication bandwidth than that currently available over the public switched telephone network, and the powerful message oriented signaling for services expansion. With variable signaling and high speed transmission capabilities, an ISDN-based home communication system can augment existing home automation and information products. This paper proposes an ISDN-based Home Communication System (IHCS) which is designed to accomodate the ISDN central office based services as well as the home information products. The architecture, featured functional message signaling and intelligent station set, allows call processing and feature enhancements. The IHCS architecture adapts to various home equipment offered by different vendors and ensures future system expansion.
