DEPENDENCE OF THE MAGNETIC STATE OF POLYANILINE ON MOISTURE

摘要
The presence of water enhances the conduction process of polyaniline in the protonated emeraldine-base form. Through magnetic susceptibility measurements on thermally aged samples it is shown that the Pauli susceptibility, which is related to the extent of conduction, and the Curie susceptibility are sensitively dependent on the presence of moisture. It is suggested that the same spin can contribute to either Curie susceptibility or Pauli susceptibility depending on its environment or temperature, and that the presence of water, even in small amounts, may determine the dynamical behaviour of the spins.
