Tourism and environmental pollution in the urban periphery of Acapulco: Ciudad Renacimiento

This paper discusses the problems of sustainability of tourism development in Acapulco, a city that is unequal and exclusive development. We study popular areas around the port of Acapulco, where environmental degradation and pollution are attached to the shortage of urban services and the presence of poverty. Ciudad Renacimiento, part of this place represents an area where you can look for other sources of contamination that help to generate pollution in this tourist town. Methodology: This technique was used: Rapid Assessment of Pollution Sources (ERFCA) to detect sources of pollution in an urban area where industrial activity is incipient, but trade and services dominate. Conclusions: Unplanned tourism becomes an obstacle to sustainable development, Acapulco is an example. Acapulco socioeconomic inequalities exist that prevent an integral development. As elsewhere, in Acapulco tourism faces two alternatives: sustainability or globalizing modernity, a challenge in our country due to poverty and the difficulties in promoting balanced growth.
