摘要：

Factors influencing the need for further automation in the glass container industry are identified and briefly discussed. These include competition with other packaging materials, working conditions and recruitment of labor, and legislation relating to the environment. The current practice and recent developments in each stage of the whole manufacturing cycle are reviewed.
