25 years after, the mitral valve prolapse (M.V.P.) is always a problem in cardiology and medico-military practice. With more rigorous diagnostic criteria, the prevalence of this abnormality seems lower. Major complications (mitral insuffisancy, endocarditis, stoke, sudden death) appear very rare and concern only a "subset of patients with high risk". Sudden death with M.V.P. is exceptional but obscures the excellent prognosis of the billowing mitral leaflet.
