It is generally believed that the phase behaviour of mixtures at high pressures, in particular solid mixtures, is mainly governed by geometrical effects. We will compare the experimental results on solid solubility of a number of binary systems with the results for hard spheres mixtures, obtained from computer simulations, and discuss the role of the shape of the repulsive forces. At high pressures it is also possible to obtain fluid-fluid equilibrium. We will examine the necessary conditions on the potential for the existence of such an equilibrium.
