摘要
The effect of cold and hot water extracts of neem (Azadirachta indica A Juss) seed kernel cake on the hydrolytic enzymes of mixed rumen bacteria was studied. The activities of carboxymethylcellulase and xylanase were stimulated, and those of alpha-amylase, protease and urease were inhibited by the addition of neem cake extract to the reaction mixture. The stimulation and inhibition became more intense with increasing concentration of extract. The hot water extract was more effective than cold water extract in stimulation of carboxymethylcellulase and xylanase activities, but alpha-amylase was inhibited equally by both the extracts.
