摘要
The electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) has considerable potential as a sensor. The strategy is to use exchange of mobile species between a surface immobilised polymer film and a solution as a probe of solution composition. Film composition changes are monitored gravimetrically. The quartz crystal microbalance offers generality of detection by mass and high sensitivity. Selectivity is sought via choice of polymer coating and electrochemical control variables. In this paper we discuss the thermodynamics and kinetics of the exchange process and conditions under which the EQCM technique is applicable.
