A study has been made of the [4 + 2]-cycloaddition of cyclopentadiene (CPD) to esters of 5-bicyclo[2.2.1]hept-2-enylcarbinol in the presence of 1,4-dihydroxyanthraquinone, which is used as an inhibitor. A convenient method has been developed for producing esters of 8-tetracyclo[4.4.1(2.5).1(7.10).O-1.6]dodec-3-enylcarbinol and fatty acids in high yield. The hydrogenation and addition of fatty monobasic acids to the double bond of synthesized unsaturated esters were carried out; new examples of saturated mono- and diesters of tetracyclic alcohols and diols were produced, the acetates of which possess a pleasant odour and can be used as synthetic perfumes in the perfume and cosmetics industry.
