摘要
The effect of common bacterial blight of bean on the net photosynthetic rate of leaves of Phaseolus vulgaris was measured in the field on two occasions. Leaf photosynthesis was related to diseased leaf area by a mathematical model. The parameter beta of the model was a function of the visual lesion, which was derived from disease severity, and the virtual lesion, which was derived from relative net photosynthetic rate. A beta value (+/- standard error) of 2.68 +/- 0.22 was determined by nonlinear regression analysis for the combined sampling dates. This beta value indicated that common bacterial blight of bean, like several fungal leaf blights, has a much greater effect on photosynthesis than that expected from the amount of visible lesion tissue, probably because the remaining green tissue of infected leaves is also affected by the pathogen. This effect was also documented independent of the mathematical function by demonstrating that the leaf photosynthetic rate was reduced by approximately 50% when only 15 to 20% of the leaf area had visual lesions.
