FAST LITHIUM CONDUCTING GLASS-CERAMICS IN THE LI2O-CAO-TIO2-AL2O3-P2O5 SYSTEM

Electrical conductivity was measured for the glasses and glass-ceramics with the composition (1+x)Li2O.6.6CaO.(4-2x)TiO2.xAl2O3.5.2P2O5 (mol ratio). High Li+-conducting glass-ceramics were obtained at around x = 0.4. The glass-ceramics are composed of LiTi2(PO4)3: Al, which is a fast Li+-conductor, and beta-Ca3(PO4)2 phases. The activation energy for the conduction was 29 kJ/mol, which is comparable to that in Li3N or LISICON. The conductivity at 300 K and 600 K is 5 x 10(-5) S/cm and 2 x 10(-2) S/cm, respectively, i.e. 5 to 7 orders of magnitude higher than those observed in the corresponding glasses.
