摘要
Eccentrically inclined load on a shallow strip foundation can be referred to as partially compensated when the line of load application on the foundation is inclined toward the center line of the foundation or reinforced when the line of load application on the foundation is inclined away from the center line. In a companion paper, Patra et al. (2012) provide model test results for a strip foundation on sand subjected to partially compensated type of loading. Laboratory model tests results for a strip foundation supported by sand and subjected to eccentrically inclined load in the reinforced mode are presented in this paper. The depth of the foundation was varied from zero to B (width of foundation) for these tests. The load eccentricity varied from 0.05B to 0.15B with load inclined from 0 degrees to 20 degrees with respect to the vertical. Based on the present model test results, an empirical reduction factor has been proposed to estimate the ultimate bearing capacity from the bearing capacity with centric vertical loading.
