THE EFFECT OF DYEING RATE ON LEVELNESS IN DYEING WITH DISPERSE AND REACTIVE DYES

The level dyeing capacity of a particular dyeing machine can be defined by two values: the effective volume of dye liquor from which dyeing takes place and the rate at which dye liquor comes into contact with the fibre. For both disperse dyes on polyester and reactive dyes on cotton, an expression has been derived which equates the levelling capacity of a practical dyeing machine to the rate of dyeing. By using this equation it is possible to determine suitable dyeing parameters that promote levelness during dyeing.
