EFFECTS OF THE COCCIDIOSTAT NARASIN (MONTEBAN(R)) ON GROWTH OF BROILER-CHICKENS IN AN EIMERIA-FREE ENVIRONMENT

Effects of the coccidiostat narasin (Monteban(R)) on growth of broiler chickens in an Eimeria-free environment were investigated for three diets with different protein contents. Addition of the coccidiostat had an improving effect on weight gain despite protein levels and an Eimeria-free environment. Coccidiostat supplement increased feed intake, but this alone did not explain the improved weight gain. The coccidiostat also improved feed conversion ratio with the largest improvement at younger ages. Coccidiostat supplement did not increase water intake, as higher protein levels did, but decreased water intake in relation to water intake. Higher levels of protein increased water intake in relation to feed intake. Mortality was not affected by coccidiostat supplement or protein levels.
