PROCESSES IN THE ELECTROPOLYMERIZATION OF BITHIOPHENE USING A QUARTZ CRYSTAL MICROBALANCE

Processes connected with film growth in the electropolymerization of 2,2'-bithiophene (BT) from acetonitrile solution are investigated using a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM). The results indicate that discharging of the partially oxidized polymer film occurs much faster than its reoxidation, which in turn occurs about five times faster than formation of new polymer. The three processes are kinetically clearly separable with a time resolution of approximately 10(-2) sec.
