SUBSTITUTION OF SO2 FOR CO IN TRIRUTHENIUM CARBONYL ANIONS

摘要
The cluster [PPN](2)[Ru-3(CO)(11)] (I) reacts with SO2 to give [PPN](2)[Ru-3(CO)(9)SO2] (II) and [PPN](2)[Ru-3(CO)(7)(SO2)(3)] (III). Both II and III were characterized by IR spectroscopy and C-13 NMR spectroscopy, and [Et(4)N](2)[Ru-3(CO)(9)SO2] was characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In both II and III, SO2 exhibits the mu(3),eta(2) bonding mode, and III has two additional SO2 ligands bridging two metals through sulfur. The latter SO2 disposition is also indicated by spectroscopic studies for [Et(4)N][HRu3(CO)(9)(SO2)(2)], which was formed by the reaction of [Et(4)N][HRu3(CO)(11)] with SO2. Spectroscopic data indicate that the SO2 ligand in II is acetylated by CH3C(O)Cl. Crystallographic data for [Et(4)N](2)[Ru-3(CO)(9)SO2]: space group P2(1)/c, a = 19.937(4)Angstrom, b = 10.074(3)Angstrom, c = 20.010(3)Angstrom, beta = 113.63(1)degrees.
