摘要:
Based on the experimental information drawn from fluorescence decay spectroscopy, adsorption isotherms and heats of adsorption measurements, a physical model is established for adsorption of non-ionic surfactants from their aqueous solutions onto silica gel surfaces. It states that the adsorption proceeds via competition between adsorbed monomers and two kinds of surface aggregates bonded to a certain number of surface silanols. This multi-site character of adsorption, the surface energetic heterogeneity and the surface aggregation appear to be the three basic factors governing the adsorption mechanism. The theoretical description based on this assumption leads to a quantitative correlation of the experimental adsorption isotherms, heats of adsorption and the measured surface aggregation.
