Details of a flow mixing calorimeter used to make measurements of the excess molar enthalpy HEm of gaseous mixtures containing steam are reported. The calorimeter was tested on (water+argon)(g) at T = 598.2 K and p = 6.93 MPa. Measurements made on (0.5H2O+0.5Ar)(g) were found to be independent of flow rate over a 10-fold range. Measurements on that mixture at temperatures up to 698.2 K and pressures up to 13.3 MPa are fitted to within experimental error by a virial equation of state reported previously. © 1993 Academic Press Ltd.
