A new model for the He-4 nucleus which combines properties of the shell and face-centered-cubic (FCC) models is introduced. The model limits excitation to a single nucleon, and the interaction strengths for the excited states are derived from the Sussex matrix elements and the FCC ground-state interaction parameters. The resulting excited states provide a reasonable description of the levels of Fiarman and Meyerhof. For example, the 20.1 MeV first excited state is predicted to be a 2HBARw single particle excitation out of the He-4 FCC core. Although the initial results are encouraging, some further adjustments to the model are necessary.
