The observation is well founded among counselors that both alcoholism and the obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) have similar characteristics. This article is a report of a survey for OCD of the populations of three agencies of non-hospitalized persons being treated for alcoholism. The survey revealed an extraordinary incident of OCD symptoms on a self reporting instrument. Pastoral counselors working with either pattern of presenting symptoms should be aware of the possibility of a dual diagnosis. (C) 2007 by The Haworth Press. All rights reserved.
