摘要
Three proton accelerators were taken, as examples, to consider the possibility of using proton beams to pump laser-active media. When a target is approximately 1 m in size, the peak density of the fast neutron flux can be greater than 10(21) n/cm2 s at a pulse duration about approximately 0.3-0.5 ms. If He-3 isotope is used as the buffer gas, p congruent-to 10(5)-10(6) Pa, this flux can provide high power densities approximately 10(5)-10(6) W/cm3. The features of the targets, physical characteristics and a possible program of researches are also considered.
