INTERACTION BETWEEN SILICA-GEL MATRICES AND THE BELOUSOV-ZHABOTINSKY REACTION

摘要
The properties of silica hydrogels as matrices for the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction are studied experimentally. An easily reproducible procedure for the preparation of the gels based on mixing waterglass solution with sulphuric acid is suggested. The time of gelation is controlled by varying the initial acid concentration. A change in the SiO2 content affects the structure and optical appearance of the gels as well as the propagation velocity and the shape of the wave fronts in the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction. Scanning electron microscopy was applied to investigate the structural differences of the various types of silica hydrogels.
