Volumetric infusion pumps are widely used for i.v. infusions. Their use was extended to the intraarterial infusion of drugs [in humans]. An in vitro evaluation of the performance of such devices, under experimental conditions comparable to an intraarterial infusion was carried out. Results confirmed the accuracy of volumetric infusion pumps for intraarterial infusions. The system was found to be safe, reliable and simple in clinical practice.
