Pseudotumor cerebri is generally a benign condition, but can cause severe visual loss. Periodic examination of the visual field is, therefore, essential in the follow-up of such patients. Oculokinetic perimetry is a new method of assessing the visual fields, and has been investigated for this purpose by comparing it with conventional Goldmann perimetry in 36 eyes of 18 patients with idiopathic intracranial hypertension. In 29 eyes excellent correlation, and in two a poor correlation was achieved. As it is inexpensive, quick, easy and reliable, oculokinetic perimetry could be used for self-assessment of visual fields at home. By making early detection of a peripheral visual defect possible, it can increase the interval between follow-up visits thereby saving costs.
