This paper aims to examine, from an interdisciplinary perspective, principiais terms used to refer to conjugal relationship between persons of the same sex in Brazil and its social and legal recognition. Thus, argues the historicity of the concepts used both in academic papers and in court decisions, including the decision of the Supreme Court in May 2011, which recognized the union between persons of the same sex as stable, including the concept of family. I consider this demand inserted in democratic struggle for sexual rights, an idea of sexual democracy.
