摘要：
This paper reviews the role of information technology in manufacturing enterprises and points to alternative strategies for achieving the results that information technology promises. It argues that the proper role of information technology in a production system cannot be correctly assessed until the system has been restructured for maximum efficiency using conventional means. The author concludes that information technologies should be considered only after conventional improvements and system reorganization have been exhausted.
