A METHOD OF DETERMINING ABSOLUTE SCINTILLATION EFFICIENCY OF AN NAI(T1) CRYSTAL FOR GAMMA RAYS

摘要
A method is described to calculate exactly the number of photons emitted per scintillation in an NaI(Tl) crystal when a γ-ray is completely absorbed. A special crystal geometry is employed, and corrections made for reflection and absorption losses between the crystal and the photomultiplier used as a detector. Spectral measurements are also made, to account for the variation of the photomultiplier response with the wavelength of the light incident on it. An estimate is made of the transmission loss between crystal and photomultiplier in a conventional assembly. © 1969.
