摘要
Objective: Trauma is one of the most important reasons of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The aim of this study was to determine the types and causes of trauma in patients admitted to a emergency department (ED) of a state hospital. Methods: In this retrospective and descriptive study, adult patients with trauma were evaluated. Chi-square test was used for statistical analysis. Results: A total of 12.078 cases admitted to the ED during one year period. Mean age was 37.7 +/- 15.9 years (range, 18-98), consisting of 66.7% males. Of the trauma, 40% occured in 18-29 age group. Half of cases were admitted between 17 pm and 24 pm. Trauma occured most frequently in June, and least frequently in February. The most common injury types were contusion, fracture and dislocation (29%). Extremity injuries (63.9%) were the most common location of injury. Traffic accidents, cutting and piercing, and strike were significantly higher in male patients. While 93% of the patients were discharged from ED uneventually, 3.6% of cases were hospitalized in other clinics of the hospital. Conclusion: An important part of patients admitted to the ED was due to trauma (5.9%). Trauma was most common in young adult patients.
