Habituated callus cultures of Chamomilla recutita (L.) Rauschert, cell line K2-27-7 were pre-cultured on medium supplemented with ABA or GA3 for three subcultures and cryopreserved in the presence of a cryoprotectant mixture containing DMSO, glycerol and sucrose. Survival of the cells was determined at three time intervals by TTC test. It was found that both precultured and control samples require approximately 10 weeks for successful regrowth. After this period, most of the samples did not show any significant differences in cell viability. Beneficial effect of post-thaw treatment that consisted of washing with fresh medium and addition of activated charcoal to the culture medium on the viability of cells has not been confirmed.
