THE WEST AND EASTERN NUCLEAR-POWER-PLANT SAFETY

The cessation of the Cold War eliminated the former security risks associated with East- West confrontation. At the same time, however, new risks have emerged, of which there is growing public awareness. These include the dangers resulting from the existence of numerous Eastern European nuclear power plants constructed under the socialist system. The problems involved are examined here by Martin List from the Hagen Open University, who currently has a research grant at the Centre for International Affairs at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts (USA).
