REFLECTION AND TRANSMISSION OF SH WAVE BY A PERIODIC ARRAY OF INTERFACE CRACKS

Reflection and transmission of a plane time-harmonic SH wave by a periodic array of interface cracks in a two phase material is investigated. Scattering by a single interface crack is first formulated, and the scattered displacements are expressed in terms of Fourier integrals containing the crack opening displacement. By using this representation formula and by considering the periodicity condition of the crack spacing, a boundary integral equation is obtained for the crack opening displacement of a reference crack. A Galerkin method is adopted to solve the boundary integral equation. Numerical results for the reflection and transmission coefficients are presented as functions of the crack spacing, the relative stiffness, the wave frequency and the angle of incidence.
