摘要
This article gives an overview on the presence of gypsies in Calderon's and Lope's theatre. The author draws attention to the fact that characters from this social group or even short mentions of it are much fewer in Calderon than in Lope. This almost complete absence is put in relation to the evolution of comedy at the end of the article. Deformitas and turpitudo disappear almost entirely from calderonian theatre giving more space to the comedy of errors involving characters from higher social classes. This evolution seems to be one of the reasons for the almost complete absence of gypsy characters or allusions to their world in Calderon's theatre.
