摘要：

Little is known about family counselors' competency to counsel lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) clients. Measures and research on multicultural competency do not include information on LGBT concerns. A measure of counselors' competency with sexual orientation issues has been developed for individual clients but does not cover couples and families. No measure has been developed assessing family counselors' competency with transgender individuals, couples, and families. Factors hindering the development of appropriate measures of family counselors' competence with LGBT clients as well as promising new directions to foster instrument development and research are discussed.
