CONFERENCE REPORT - 1995 INTERNATIONAL-OIL-SPILL-CONFERENCE UPDATE

The 1995 International Oil Spill Conference has a revised and expanded program and offers a new meeting facility in Long Beach, California. Perennial sponsors American Petroleum Institute, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Coast Guard, have been joined by the international sponsors IMO (International Maritime Organization) and IPIECA (International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association). The program will include water demonstrations, 180 poster papers, over 300 exhibits, and 145 technical papers. Also included will be three special panels covering response management systems, maintenance of response capabilities, and the role of science in damage assessment for natural resources. A special white paper publication addressing these three topic areas will also be included with the proceedings. A featured luncheon speaker will be Lord Donaldson who will also participate in a special session on the Braer incident. Additional special topic meetings and demonstrations include a National Resources Damage Assessment (NRDA) workshop, National Response Team Public meeting, bird and mammal rescue demonstration, and IPIECA spill response seminar. Meeting dates are 27 February-2 March 1995.
