RARE-EARTH SULFIDE OXIDES ER2S2O, TM2S2O, YB2S2O - HIGH-PRESSURE SYNTHESIS AND CRYSTAL-STRUCTURE

摘要
A new class of rare earth sulphide oxides Ln2S2O (Ln ≡ Er, Tm, Yb) is reported, which can be synthesized at high pressure in a Belt-type apparatus. Single crystals of Tm2S2O, grown by an iodide-flux method at 10 kbar and 1600°C, are monoclinic, space group P21/c, with a = 8.1556(1), b = 6.7960(1), c = 6.7739(1) A ̊, β = 99.844(2)° and Z = 4. Er2S2O and Yb2S2O are isostructural (Er2S2O: a = 8.1920(1), b = 6.8326(1), c = 6.8050(1) A ̊, β = 99.631(2)°; Yb2S2O: a = 8.1181(2), b = 6.7616(2), c = 6.7403(2) A ̊, β = 99.922(3)°). The crystal structure comprises two different cation sites, which are (7)o- and (7)p-coordinated by the anions. The coordination polyhedra and their rather complicated connection pattern show more similarities to the sesquisulphides Ln2S3 than to the sesquioxides Ln2O3. © 1990.
