ELECTRON GENERATION FROM A METAL TARGET INDUCED BY AN XECL LASER

In this experimental work, the generation of electrons induced by an XeCl excimer laser of 4,02 eV photon energy, on a Zn target having a work function of 3.9 eV, has been studied. During the laser illumination the target temperature was time dependent and this behavior strongly influences the electron emission. In fact, if the laser pulse is long enough, the electron emission increases at the laser pulse tail. To explain the experimental results, numerical calculations of the generalized Richardson equation were performed. The maximum current density obtained was 5 A/cm2 and the total charge extracted was 11.6 nC/bunch.
