Urogenital symptoms and treatment with estradiol. Impact of treatment with low-dose vaginal estradiol on the frequency and severity of urogenital symptoms

Objective. Low-dose local vaginal estrogen delivery is effective and well tolerated for treating postmenopausal urogenital atrophy. The aim of the study was to investigate the Impact of local estradiol treatment on the frequency and severity of urogenital symptoms. Furthermore, the impact of urogenital symptoms on daily activities was evaluated. Patients and Methods. A total of 1,613 women aged 61.1 +/- 7.7 years were enrolled in the study. The severity and frequency of urogenital symptoms were assessed before and after treatment with vaginal tablets, each containing 25 mu g estradiol. The study was conducted as an 'observational study' in accordance with the rules stipulated in section 67 of the German Drugs Act (AMG). Results. A total of 1,613 women aged 61.1 +/- 7.7 years were enrolled in the study. The severity and frequency of urogenital symptoms were assessed before and after treatment with vaginal tablets, each containing 25 mu g estradiol. Local estradiol therapy rapidly alleviates vaginal and urological complaints, thereby improving the ability to cope with everyday activities.
