The influence of cadmium on the bottle hydration of C3A at 4-degrees-C and 25-degrees-C for 1, 8, 14, 29, 76 and 106 days was studied with differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and by atomic absorption. Cadmium was retained in the hydration products as Cd(OH)2. The presence of cadmium during hydration inhibited the formation of the C3AH6 hydrated phase. The influence of cadmium was more pronounced at 4-degrees-C.
