Dengue fever is caused by four viruses antigenically related without cross protection, Since twenty years, the incidence is continuously growing and represents a major public health problem in Asia, South America and Oceania. The outbreak of New Caledonia (1989) is described, Physiopathology is complex particularly the factors responsible of Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever and Shock Syndrome, The different pattern of epidemic are rewieved in Oceania and others areas in the world where the four viruses are isolated. The prevention remains based on the control of vectors. In the future, the vaccine must include all four viruses, to induce a protective and global immunity.
