摘要：

This paper aims to examine the issue of old age and aging today, beginning with a conceptual approach that bring light of worldwide importance of the subject, it comes from social, economic and political insights. From this place we analyze some essential elements for the formulation of public policies, taking not only from a conceptual definition, but as a category of political analysis. Therefore, the article addresses the issue of ageing as a field of study of the social sciences and their implications in the economic, social and political scenarios, both national and global, and the subject of old age as a focal point of cultural and sociological analysis associated with the social representations and their implications to the State's responses in relation to the issue.
