TEMPERATURE EFFECT ON THE PERFORMANCE OF POLARIZATION-MAINTAINING FIBERS

摘要
The cross coupling of the polarization modes of polarization-maintaining fibers is measured in a temperature control chamber. The temperature dependence of the extinction ratio is analyzed in terms of a steady temperature gradient and a fluctuating component that are experimentally controlled. The consistency of the experimental results with the theoretical analysis in this study can be used to limit the applications of fibers to specific desirable designs. Temperature range for the required accuracy is also addressed.
