摘要：

Theoretical and experimental fundamentals of the phenomenon of self-switching of unidirectional distributedly coupled waves (UDCW) are described. UDCW embrace a whole class of waves in optics: waves in tunnel-coupled optical waveguides, waves with different polarisations in birefringent waveguides and crystals, waves undergoing Bragg diffraction, waves with different frequencies in media with quadratic nonlinearities, and so on.
