Ecclesiastes is being claimed by some Christians as a book for our time. Commentaries come back again and again to the same few problems - eg what is the voice of the book, and what are we to make of its ending? In this reflection I explore how reading out loud in public both brings alive the challenges of Ecclesiastes to the reader, and also raises issues which may elude the pages of a scholarly study of the text.
