ELECTROCHEMICAL-BEHAVIOR OF PT(111) IN ALKALINE MEDIA - EFFECT OF SPECIFIC ADSORPTION OF ANIONS

摘要
The electrochemical behaviour of a Pt(111) surface in three alkaline media (NaHCO3, Na2CO3 and NaOH) has been studied. The voltammograms show two very well-defined zones for the three media investigated. The one located at lower potentials corresponds to weak hydrogen adsorption states. In the second zone at more positive potentials several processes are superimposed that have been separated by the strong specific adsorption of anions (bromide and iodide). The shift of part of this second zone to less positive potentials with the increase of the anion-specific adsorption could be compatible with a hydrogen-like adsorbed species, while the shift to more positive potentials of the other part could be compatible with an oxygenated adsorbed species.
