EFFECT OF NITROGEN AND JALSHAKTI ON YIELD OF WINTER SORGHUM (SORGHUM-BICOLOR) UNDER RAIN-FED AND IRRIGATED CONDITIONS

A field experiment was conducted at Parbhani during the winters of 1987-88 and 1988-89 to study the response of 'SPV 504' ('Swati') sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] to different levels of nitrogen, Jalshakti and irrigation. Grain and fodder yields of 'Swati' was significantly affected by nitrogen and irrigation application. The highest grain and fodder yields were obtained with 75 kg N/ha. Significantly higher yields were obtained with irrigation compared with unirrigated control. Effect of Jalshakti on grain and fodder yields of 'Swati' was not at all observed. Interaction between nitrogen and irrigation was significant.
