摘要
Forty years ago Jurgen Moltmann published The Crucified God, which set the cat among a few theological pigeons. In the face of the history of suffering in the world, Moltmann argued that we must speak of God 'within earshot of the dying Jesus'. In the process he argues against the understanding of God, the immanent Trinity, as impassible. Having been sympathetic to Moltmann's view, the author now raises some questions against it. Apart from the lack of a clear agreed meaning of impassibility (apatheia), the protagonists on each side of the question disagree fundamentally on the meaning of God's transcendence and the abundance of God's eternal 'life'.
