This paper analyzes the semantic content of hit verbs in Latin, Old English, and 'Classical Greek using the Lexical Grammar Model (Cortes and Mairal 2002, Cones and Torres 2003, and Van Valin and La Polls 1997, among others). This model postulates that syntactic behavior is influenced by, semantics, thereby making it possible to, use the former to determine a large part of the semantic content of lexical entries. We describe the potential for this methodology to (re)construct the semantic content of words in classical languages.
