摘要
A new inorganic material of photon-gated spectral hole burning, the BaSO4:Sm2+ crystal is reported for the first time. Using the approximately 624 nm output from a CW dye laser and a 514.5 nm output of Ar+ laser (the gating light), we observed persistent hole burning, which involves two-step photoionization of SM2+ in the F-7(0)-5D1 inhomogeneously broadened absorption line at 6 K. The experimental results of relevant spectral properties are given.
